![]() "Thank you, William Brohaugh. Thank you for writing this book. Barbecue is the better for it." --Doug Mosley in The National Barbecue News "The blend of travel, social and culinary history is exceptional and fun in this highly recommended pick." --Midwest Book Review "A must read for aspiring pit masters and great for armchair cooks, too." --Steven Raichlen, author of The Barbecue Bible and host of PBS's Barbecue University |
I want to point to my book's sample chapters. In "Sing a Song of Pig Puns, Pocket Full of Wry," I reprint the chapter on team names. One team I talk about is New Pigs on the Block, which changed its name to Pigs in Paradise. One of my great BBQ friends, Joe Melvin, knows the Pigs in both incarnations, and in fact had his own suggestion for the team: From "New Pigs on the Block" to "Old Pigs Been Around the Block." Coulda worked. I have added two sample chapters, as well: "Happy Hog Gets His Rude Awakening," talking about the clever, playful and sometimes outright stupid logos that teams use, and "Starring Hog-Eye Pierce", talking about, as comedian Rita Rudner noted, "Men will cook if there's danger involved." Quick Take The folks at Emmis Books, Grill's publisher, have been fantastic to me. Publisher Richard Hunt, Editor Jack Heffron, and publicist Howard Cohen are topnotch. In fact, I like Howard's work on our press release so much, I've reprinted it here. In the often-drab world of PR-writing, Howard's recap of this book sparkles. (And I know it isn't barbecue, but let me point out a funny and opinionated Emmis baseball book I love: Baseball Uncyclopedia, by Michael Kun and Howard Bloom.) The Voice of The Grill of Victory I've had the honor of appearing on several radio shows to talk about The Grill of Victory, including WGN Chicago's Nick Digilio show (720 AM), WLW Cincinnati's Gary Burbank show (700 AM), the nationally syndicated America Tonight with Kate Delaney, and Maxim Radio on the Sirius satellite network. Earlier, I was delighted to speak to Carole Kotkin and Simone Diament on "Food and Wine Talk," a radio program on WDNA Miami (88.9 FM) sponsored by The South Florida Gourmet.com. Click here to listen to that conversation—my interview begins about half way through the audio track. |
